Have you ever met a swimming pool same as a lake or sea?

Before diving in to this one, you might want to stock up on the energy drinks if you like doing laps in the swimming pool. This is an artificial lagoon and swimming pool, in the South American resort of San Alfonso del Mar in Chile, is contains an incredible 250,000 cubic meters of water and eight hectares in size, more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water.

Guinness World Records acknowledged this stuff as being the world’s largest swimming pool, in this category the lagoon trounces all other record holders, including a huge 150 meters by 100 meters the Orthlieb pool in Casablanca, Morocco. The San Alfonso pool is 1km in length.

Transparent to a depth of 35 meters and unprecedented in construction methods and design, the revolutionary clear water artificial lagoons are the brainchild of Crystal Lagoons founder, Chilean businessman and biochemist Fernando Fischmann. Details of its technology are to be unveiled for the first time at Cityscape Dubai later this month, equivalent in size to an incredible 6,000 standard domestic pools.

This pool uses filtration system and a computer- controlled suction to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, pumping it out and drawing it in from the ocean at one end at the other. This one took five years to build, cost nearly ?1billion and the annual maintenance bill will be ?2million. The sun warms the water nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea, to 26c.

“As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean”, Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said.
